  • GoogleTranslate Keeps Data

  • When you use Google Translate, Google keeps any and all text you put into their system. This is within their rights to do, but the problem is, they don't tell users that they're doing this. If you are working in legal or medical areas and you run text through the system you could be breaking attorney-client privilege or medical privacy laws without knowing it. Two representatives from Google Translate who spoke at the annual conference for the Association of Language Companies were confronted about this by an audience question. Their response was that Google did not feel as though it was its "responsibility" to tell users and that Google's legal team had told them a deeply buried clause in the main Google site's privacy policy was legally sufficient and that they were only concerned with what was legally sufficient and did not want to put anything on the actual Translate site because it might "distract users." Pretty irresponsible, if you ask me, since users could get disbarred or sued for using their site unaware. http://speech.given.by.Google.staff.at.Association.of.Language.Companies.conference
