I am not sure how green IBM is, so I am not going to base my evaluation/ranking of them on particular environmental actions (positive or negative) but I do think it is completely irresponsible to say that changing to IBM servers or adding more IBM servers is a green activity. First, a green activity would be to manage data better and only keep/store what is absolutely critical. Second, they ignore all green aspects other than energy use. Replacing servers means disposing of old, potentially outdated ones. How environmentally sound is that? Does IBM facilitate recycling and reusing in a meaningful way? Do they design their servers with disposal in mind? Do they use minerals that require the least invasive forms of mining? I don't think the answer to ALL of these questions has to be &amp;quot;yes&amp;quot;, but those are the questions IBM needs to answer before it can say it is environmentally responsible or that it can help a customer's company be green.</description><addedDate>12/15/2008 1:39:47 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>RICE, Inc.</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=127</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/127RICE logo58027105.png</imageurl><address>32 East 13th Street</address><city>New York</city><state>NY</state><zip>10003</zip><points>10</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>From the company's website:

(or the DDC, as we are locally known) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that was established in 1979 when a group of local citizens saw the need for an organization to help the people in and around Dungannon with housing and everyday needs for their families. Over the years the structure of the organization has changed, but the vision remains the same today.

Our committed activists and supporters have come together to ban commercial whaling, convince the world's leaders to stop nuclear testing, protect Antarctica, and so much more. Today, we have grown from a small group of dedicated activists to an international organization with offices in more than 30 countries. But our spirit and our mission remain the same. Our fight to save the planet has grown more serious – the threat of global warming, destruction of ancient forests, deterioration of our oceans, and the threat of a nuclear disaster loom large. Greenpeace is actively working to address these and other threats. Using the tools of modern biology, we help farmers grow more yield sustainably so they can produce more and conserve more. Afterall, it is the world’s farmers that truly feed, clothe and fuel our growing world.

We produce leading seed brands in large-acre crops like corn, cotton, and oilseeds (soybeans and canola), as well as small-acre crops like vegetables. We also produce leading in-the-seed trait technologies for farmers that are aimed at protecting their yield, supporting their on-farm efficiency and reducing their on-farm costs.

We're constantly looking at ways to maximize the potential of seed -- both its yield potential and the technology used to protect it -- so farmers can get more out of each seed. Today, farmers use our innovative seed-based products to help them protect their crops and produce healthier foods and better animal feed.

As a company, we remain committed to broadly licensing our seed and trait technologies to other companies throughout the world. This approach ensures that farmers can access our products in the varieties that mean the most to their farm.

In addition to our seeds and traits business, we also manufacture the world's best-selling herbicide, Roundup&amp;#174;, and other herbicides used by farmers, consumers and lawn-and-garden professionals.

C&amp;#233;sar Ch&amp;#225;vez founded LUPE, rooted in the belief that members of the low-income community have the responsibility and the obligation to organize themselves, and through their association, begin to advocate and articulate for the issues and factors that impact their lives. Further, C&amp;#233;sar Ch&amp;#225;vez believed that for people to have ownership of this endeavor, they have to invest of themselves, their efforts and resources, to sustain it. The membership, and the responsibility that comes with it, form the base that is the power of the organization.

LUPE Builds People Power By Leadership Training and Committee Building

Our staff is comprised of a talented group of community organizers, parents, activists and social service providers. Our staff develops and supports a network of local committees. Each staff member is committed to excellence in creating an environment where our members produce tangible results that change people's lives. But the strength of LUPE is found within our leaders and volunteers who build the organization through neighborhood committees - house meeting after house meeting, committee after committee, campaign after campaign. Like a hammer on a nail.

LUPE committees respond to the injustices facing working families, farmworkers and immigrant communities.

LUPE builds organization through committees

LUPE is building neighborhood committees in throughout South Texas. Through a committee structure, we are able to identify and develop leaders and increase their capacity to respond to community problems.

LUPE addresses community issues through Strategic Action Plans.

LUPE committees prioritize issues and then develops strategic action plans to address them. Each plan follows that same structure of direct action advocacy so that committees can address a range of issues from securing additional stops signs across from a local school to improving a community's water quality.

LUPE holds decision-makers accountable.

LUPE committees and supporters believe that local decision-makers should be responsive to the needs and interests of their constituents. LUPE leads large-scale non-partisan voter registration, education and Get-Out-The-Vote efforts so that a greater number of Latinos and LUPE leaders participate in civic life and enact social change.</description><addedDate>3/1/2009 1:33:59 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Brilliant Earth</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=147</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/ </imageurl><address /><city /><state /><zip /><points>10</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Social Equity</socailCategory><description>Brilliant Earth is the leading supplier of conflict free diamonds. In return, the US tax payer had to give more than $170 BILLION to support this business that was 1) so critical to our financial system and 2) unable to find the cash to remain in business and meet its obligations. Now, as everyone has heard, they want to pay out $165 million in bonuses to those people who destroyed so much value - some of whom don't even work for AIG anymore! AIG has no ground upon which to stand. They claim that they need to retain talent but there is plenty of talent out there in this market and the talent they are rewarding pretty much drove the company into the ground.
And, AIG has the tax payer right where they want them -- what can we do? Hate the company and refuse to do business with them? Hardly. If we do that, we are hurting a company that WE NOW OWN.
Political blame is sure to be part of this discussion. Did law makers really mess up when they doled out cash without getting any say over how it was spent? Maybe. What we do know is that AIG has a responsibility and obligation to be better -- much better.</description><addedDate>3/17/2009 10:34:00 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Ann Arbor Farmers Market</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=156</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/ </imageurl><address>315 Detroit Street 315 Detroit Street Ann Arbor, MI 48104</address><city /><state /><zip /><points>10</points><rating>0</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>Located in the Kerrytown district, the Ann Arbor Farmers Market has been connecting producers with consumers for over 88 years! Plus, the boots do seem to last forever, so that is pretty good for the environment. </description><addedDate>4/15/2009 8:21:04 AM</addedDate></item><item><title>Timberland</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=175</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/175Timberland Logo1542166.png</imageurl><address> </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>9</points><rating>5</rating><socailCategory>Consumer Advocacy</socailCategory><description>The earth keepers shoe is a good start to sustainability. You have no food at your house and no menus in your drawer. You debate over the local restaurants or better yet, which restaurants are even in your area. How do you know who delivers or what specials appear on their menus? You somehow justify waiting on hold just to find out that your favourite place is out of their special dish.

We dealt with the same problems and we knew we weren't the only ones dealing with it!

In the summer of 2008, we set out to solve our eating dilemma. Our goal was to create a website that provided consumers with an interactive list of local delivery restaurants. Giving you the flexibility to view restaurant menus, specials, directions, and even allow you to order your food online! Fast, free, and easy, you cut down on the miscommunications, endless hours of debating over where to order from, and the busy signals you get when on the phone with the restaurant.

We are happy to announce the answer to your frustration....www.GrubCanada.com!

This site is built for you! Please help us spread the word and let us know how to make our site better for you! </description><addedDate>4/15/2009 6:08:27 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Art of Living Foundation</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=187</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/187logo-local73216865.jpg</imageurl><address>2401 15th Street NW, Washington DC 20009 </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>0</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Social Equity</socailCategory><description>Run by volunteers around the world, the Art of Living Foundation serves the society by strengthening the individual and performing community service. </description><addedDate>4/15/2009 6:33:52 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Waubonsee Community College</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=188</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/188hdr_logo34690836.gif</imageurl><address>Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive, Sugar Grove, IL 60554 </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>2</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Social Equity</socailCategory><description>-Claims to be environmentally friendly and promote sustainability.

Director, Josh Tickell, a young activist, shuttles us on a whirlwind journey to track the rising domination of the petrochemical industry — from Rockefeller’s strategy to halt Ford’s first ethanol cars to Vice President Cheney's petrochemical company sponsored energy legislation — and reveals a gamut of available solutions to &amp;quot;repower America&amp;quot; — from vertical farms that occupy skyscrapers to algae facilities that turn wastewater into fuel. The Foundation is also devoted to improving the quality of life for those afflicted with this illness through:

Funding and supporting new research.
Providing educational materials to the medical and lay communities.
Obtaining Congressional Support to increase funding of the NIH to find a cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Convincing the drug companies to initiate additional studies to find an effective treatment.
Raising funds so that Medical and Scientific Researchers can devote their time exclusively to finding a cure and not have to be diverted from these tasks to seek financial support.
Providing support groups, information and reassurance.
Through your support we hope to empower scientists and physicians to sufficiently increase biomedical knowledge to the point where having Pulmonary Fibrosis no longer implies a death sentence.

Pulmonary Fibrosis involves scarring of the lung. Gradually, the air sacs of the lungs become replaced by fibrotic tissue. When the scar forms, the tissue becomes thicker causing an irreversible loss of the tissue’s ability to transfer oxygen into the bloodstream

There are five million people worldwide that are affected by this disease. In the United States there are over 200,000 patients with Pulmonary Fibrosis. As a consequence of misdiagnosis the actual numbers may be significantly higher. Of these more than 40,000 expire annually. This is the same as die from Breast Cancer. </description><addedDate>5/12/2009 10:28:28 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>E Paseo Limousine</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=242</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/242El-Paseo-Propane-Bus-Web-1-post91866087.jpg</imageurl><address>651 Aldo Avenue </address><city>Santa Clara </city><state>CA </state><zip>95054 </zip><points>5</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>El Paseo Limousine is integrating hybrid, CNG and Propane cars, vans and buses into their fleet, adding devices to keep their motor oil cleaner so it lasts longer, and installing devices on their fossil fuel-fueled cars to reduce emissions by more than 12%.

They sell appliances, flooring, building materials, doors, windows, lighting, kitchen and bathroom counters and cabinets, paint, tools and outdoor materials.

Everybody talks about wanting to help the environment, which includes preserving the forests. We try to use recycled paper and products, but what do we do when we need to build or construct something out of wood? At the Home Depot, the lumber sold is from forests managed in such a way that ensure its protection, along with the protection of its inhabitants. It takes almost 64 trees to create all the wood products found in the typical kitchen. That’s a lot of trees considering every household has a kitchen, so why wouldn’t someone want to buy FSC certified lumber, and make that eco-friendly effort.

The Home Depot is also the place for all your energy saving needs with an extensive collection of solar and energy efficient products which help save money on utility bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Home Depot also supplies paint that reduces emissions and improves air quality for earth but especially for your home and family. Freshaire Choice paint, only available at the Home Depot, is the first and only paint tinted paint to contain no Volatile Organic Compounds, which are harsh chemicals in paint that give it that paint smell.

Although building or remodeling may not be a very environmentally sound activity, society will continue to build houses, make wood kitchen cabinets, paint walls and use electricity, so why not be as eco-friendly as possible. The Home Depot is an ideal place to go for those eco-friendly products. </description><addedDate>6/10/2009 1:34:22 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Lipton Tea</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=270</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/270logo-lipton76330594.jpg</imageurl><address /><city /><state /><zip /><points>2</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Social Equity</socailCategory><description>Lipton Tea has made a commitment to sustainable agriculture. Several of the tea farms have earned the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal including their Kericho, Kenya estate. By 2015 Lipton hopes that all of their tea bags sold globally will have been grown on Rainforest Alliance Certified estates. The Rainforest Alliance is a nonprofit conservation organization that works to conserve biodiversity and protect the rights and welfare of workers, their families and communities. Farms that meet the standards of the Sustainable Agriculture Network, which is an international coalition of leading conservation groups, are eligible to earn the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal. According to a posting on The Passionate Foodie website, a “potential contender for the top spot” is actually 360 Vodka. The McCormick Distilling Co. Inc, located in Missouri, recently created a division called the Earth Friendly Distilling Company, to produce their new product, the 360 Vodka, which is devoted to eco-awareness and corporate responsibility. They reduce transportation emissions by using only grains from Kansas and Missouri. The vodka is distilled and filtered in such a way that none of the grains go to waste, as well as energy. The facility also stops the carbon dioxide from leaving the distilling center and entering the atmosphere. The vodka has packaging materials that are recycled and transported using new hybrid and biodiesel trucks. The best part is, the vodka tastes great (according to the writer of The Passionate Foodie post) and is not more expensive than any other premium vodka. </description><addedDate>6/23/2009 9:28:18 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>altraBrescia</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=299</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/299logoaltrabrescianerosso8486590.png</imageurl><address> </address><city>Brescia </city><state>Italy </state><zip> </zip><points>1</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>Stakeholders, all Brescia's community, can write articles and speak about what really happens in its city paying a particular attention to environmental problems (like the big incenerator). The company was built on environmentally friendly ideals, even before the green movement. Kellogg’s cereal cardboard packaging has been made from recycled materials for almost 100 years. However, the bag inside the cereal box and the wrappers used for cereal bars are not recycled. Over the years, Kellogg’s has been working to reduce the amount of cardboard and plastic wrapping used in its packaging, while keeping the food safe and fresh. The company also has active and lifestyle community programs in the UK that promote healthy living. </description><addedDate>6/29/2009 8:28:50 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>General Motors</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=304</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/304General Motors Logo37789935.png</imageurl><address /><city /><state /><zip /><points>14</points><rating>9</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>The new Chevy Volt is a new line of hybrid they just came out with! They are different from allthe ones int eh past becasuse they are a Series hybrid, which means power is fed directly to the motor, not the battery. It can be plugged into a household electric socket and charged fully within about six hours. Completely charged it can drive roughly 40 miles on electricity alone. According to GM, more than 75 percent of Americans live within 20 miles of where they work, meaning the Volt would get them to the office and back on 100% electricity with no direct emissions. This is great and will hopfully encourage more people to purcahse nad use hybrids!

If the battery does run down, the 1.0-liter, three-cylinder gas engine acts as a generator to charge the battery and provides enough power to for up to an additional 600 miles. This is great and that is a such a long distance the amount you would save on gas is rediculous!

The second significant aspect is that the gasoline-driven generator engine can easily be replaced with an engine that runs on E85, diesel, bio-diesel, pure ethanol or even a hydrogen fuel cell. People would then be able to chose their engine based on fuel availability and prices in their region. Another great and innovative option that will really appeal to the consumer where ever they are.

Yet the company struggles to satisfy many customers, earning it a negative reputation. A 2007 MSN Money-Zogby poll found that 30 percent of Comcast users considered the company's customer service to be poor. The company admitted that it has over 260 million customer interactions per year and is ranked third in MSN Money's Customer Service Hall of Shame. A socially responsible company cannot have as many dissatisfied customers as Comcast. The cable and Internet company has vowed to improve its quality of service. It claims to proactively reach out to over 15,000 customers per month and seek feedback from them. If the company can utilize the feedback and develop new strategies for maintaining rapport with customers, then it will reduce the hostility it now faces. However, what if Comcast cannot please its customers? Will it remain a Fortune 100 company? Or will negative publicity hamper its future profitability? </description><addedDate>7/2/2009 2:37:25 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Recharge Mower</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=310</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/310recharge12661799.jpg</imageurl><address> </address><city>Windsor </city><state>Ontario </state><zip> </zip><points>4</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>NO GAS – NO OIL - NO EMISSIONS

The problem with convincing people to engage in planting their own produce [and implementing this on a large scale] is that people are too lazy to, or intimidated by their own lack of knowledge of farming, to plant their own garden. Your Backyard Farmer provides a solution to this: you provide the seeds and yard, and they'll plant and take care of your garden for you. Currently located only in Portland, the two owners regularly stop in to check up on hundreds of clients' backard gardens. Their efforts have gained attention all over the U.S. and Canada, and have successfully encouraged many others to develop similar companies.

The company removed lead from its formulas over a decade before the EPA mandated it, and stopped using mercury more than two decades before the EPA banned mercury in paints. Today, long after lead and mercury have been removed from paint products many kinds still contain large quantities of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). All Benjamin Moore Paints are either low-VOC or no-VOC, and contain levels far below levels federal regulations allow. One of Benjamin Moore's leading paint lines is the Aura, which contains 50 g per liter of VOCs, while federal regulations allow for up to 250 grams for flat and 380 grams for non-flat paint. Benjanin Moore's tinting uses waterborne colorants which add no additional VOCs; on the other hand, most other companies' low-VOC paints add an additional level of low-VOC chemicals with the tint. </description><addedDate>7/24/2009 12:29:49 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Garuda International</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=341</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/341Garuda Intl logo86469529.jpg</imageurl><address>Salem, Oregon </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>0</points><rating>0</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description> </description><addedDate>7/24/2009 4:03:12 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>LONGAID COMMUNITY ENTERPRISE</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=342</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/342LONGAID93221245.JPG</imageurl><address>Qingdao, China </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>-2</points><rating>0</rating><socailCategory>Social Equity</socailCategory><description>LONGAID is dedicating to facilitate community organization and social enterprise creation and establishment in China. </description><addedDate>7/26/2009 6:05:34 AM</addedDate></item><item><title>Detroit Tigers</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=343</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/343Tigers79422621.png</imageurl><address> </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>6</points><rating>2</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>On July 24th and July 25th, the Detroit Tigers showed off their &amp;quot;Going, Going, GREEN!&amp;quot; campaign while hosting the Chicago White Sox. From 12 pm to 8 pm, the Tigers organization held a gathering to promote environmental responsibility in downtown Detoit. Fans learned strategies for going green and found out about Michigan's greenest businesses. The first 10,000 fans at the games on both days also received reusable shopping bags bearing the &amp;quot;Going, Going, GREEN!&amp;quot; logo. This effort by the Tigers is very commendable given Detoit's need for an green leader. Spreading knowledge is one of the most effective ways of helping the environment. Not to mention the 20,000 reusable shopping bags will save a tremendous amount of plastic. </description><addedDate>7/26/2009 2:34:22 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Epson</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=344</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/344epson38851282.jpg</imageurl><address> </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>3</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>In an industry plagued with planned obsolescence and failure to think green, Epson has stepped forward with the right foot in setting bold energy and recycling goals for itself. Not very impressive when considering that HP produces approximately 575 million of these per year - which means that the electronics giant has manufactured almost 10 billion cartridges since 1992. So where did the other 9.99 billion cartridges end up? At least half of these are in landfills. Also, some HP laptop buyers claim that monitor screens with the mercury-free LED label still contain mercury. The warning label is conveniently located inside the box, tricking shoppers with the external LED label. How ethical. Greenpeace expands the HP abbreviation to &amp;quot;Hazardous Products,&amp;quot; a mock reference to the company's judicious use of toxic chemicals. HP repeatedly breaks its own commitments to eliminating the hazardous materials from its products. Such toxins include polyvinyl chloride plastics and brominated flame retardants. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic is sometimes called the poison plastic because of its link to cancer and birth defects. Until HP can follow through on a commitment to &amp;quot;phase out toxic chemicals&amp;quot; including PVC plastic and brominated flame retardants, it cannot be considered a socially responsible company. </description><addedDate>8/5/2009 12:01:58 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Greenscroll</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=351</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/351turbine94110569.jpg</imageurl><address>121 Limestone Cres. The Fresh Air Club is the world’s only residential air filter home delivery and recycling service, offering its members scheduled shipments of high efficiency, Merv-rated filters on a 90, 60, or 30 day plan through-out the year to help their families to keep their indoor air quality fresh, clean, and free from harmful pollutants while at the same time recycling each filter through an innovative pre-paid return and tracking system that results in 0% local landfill impact. The company's appeal and success is centered on the convenient and eco-friendly business model that addresses poor indoor air quality of homes - one of America’s top 5 risks to public health, according to the Environmental Protection Agency – and the requirement for more companies to offer “green” solutions.

The Fresh Air Club has revolutionized the way people change their home air filter - by bringing the air filters directly to them on a recurring schedule so members are reminded to change their filters, and recycling the dirty filters to reduce the impact on our environment.

You may visit the home page at www.FreshAirClub.com for more information, service plans, and enrollment. </description><addedDate>8/26/2009 4:54:03 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Nissan</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=369</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/369nissan97013372.jpg</imageurl><address> </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>8</points><rating>4</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>In recent years there has been great image disparity in the &amp;quot;green-ness&amp;quot; of Japan's top automakers: Toyota and Honda at the top, and third-largest Japanese auto company Nissan far below. Nissan's hybrid Altima has gotten mediocre reviews and rather little limelight when measured up to the Prius and Insight, but in 2010 Nissan will become the first auto company (along with Renault) to mass produce electric cars with its Leaf, which can go 100 miles per charge, travel 90 mph, and will be available to the average consumer at prices between $25-33k. A year from now, I'd give them a 4. </description><addedDate>8/26/2009 8:17:51 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Anheuser-Busch</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=372</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/372Anheuser_Busch_Logo22952925.jpg</imageurl><address /><city /><state /><zip /><points>0</points><rating>1</rating><socailCategory>Consumer Advocacy</socailCategory><description>Anheuser-Busch devotes a large portion of its website homepage to brag about its sustainability efforts. Now before everyone jumps down their throats because their delivery creates pollution or brewing beer releases hazardous chemicals into the air (which are inevitable), look at some of the environmental good they've done. They rely on alternative fuel and are beginning to purchase hybrid delivery trucks. Last year, they saved 20 million pounds of aluminum by using smaller lids. Their animal-care experts have saved over 15,000 animals since 1970 and the company continues to educate the public on wildlife preservation. And through it all, Anheuser-Busch has heavily advertised its beer, even to underage college students. Smart advertising? After all, binge drinking is not a fad, but a typical student's lifestyle. Or is it unethical? Underage drinking is obviously against the law. In my opinion, this is smart advertising. While minors drinking is technically illegal, it is a law that a dwindling minority of Americans care to enforce. Even most police officers see nothing wrong with underage drinking (although they will not hesitate to ticket or arrest minors in possession of alcohol). Simply put, college students will drink and there is no way to stop them. Might as well capitalize on their willingness to buy, right?</description><addedDate>8/31/2009 10:16:31 AM</addedDate></item><item><title>Fiji Water</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=373</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/373fiji_mariettaki34815102.jpg</imageurl><address> </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>3</points><rating>0</rating><socailCategory>Social Equity</socailCategory><description>The impact of one of the most visible brands in the water world was revealed in a recent Mother Jones article (http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2009/09/fiji-spin-bottle). In November 1996, Steve Byckiewicz and Bob MacLeod (the KISS founders) along with 11 other cosmetics companies participated in a press conference in New York City that launched the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals (CSCA). The standard was created by The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) which consists of 9 animal protection associations - American Antivivisection Society, American Humane Association, Animal Protection Institute, Beauty without Cruelty, Doris Day Animal League, Humane Society of the U.S., In Defense of Animals, New England Antivivisection Society, and PETA. According to their brochure, it is the most rigorous standard for companies to pledge their commitment to no animal testing. By using time-tested ingredients (ones with an established history of safety), diligently reviewing raw material information, and utilizing human volunteers in clinical safety trials, no company need ever test on animals again! </description><addedDate>10/8/2009 9:01:32 PM</addedDate></item><item><title>Enterprise Rent-A-Car</title><link>http://www.socialyell.com/business-details.aspx?bid=385</link><imageurl>http://www.socialyell.com/images/logos/tn/385enterpriseLogo71999288.jpg</imageurl><address> </address><city> </city><state> </state><zip> </zip><points>6</points><rating>2</rating><socailCategory>Environment</socailCategory><description>Enterprise has hybrid cars available, but they charge so much for them.
