  • Tesla Motors IPO...

  • First off, let me say that I think competition is a wonderful driver of innovation and on that front, I'm very excited for Tesla Motors. I love to see the pressure on old industry players like GM, Toyota, Honda and Ford. However, I have to say that a few things still give me pause about the long-term prospects of this company... A) their brass had quite a shake-up last year, B) their supposed $30k every-person car has quietly morphed into a $50k luxury sedan (http://www.teslamotors.com/models/), and C) nearly 1/10 of the number of shares sold in their IPO were unloaded by the CEO and other higher ups. Lets say I'm cautiously optimistic... although I won't be buying one of their cars until the pricing falls by a significant margin. Right now they still seem to be targeting rich folks who feel bad about driving their Ferraris. It reminds me of when I was selling PV and installed a $30k system on a mansion in Long Island that used 4,000 kwh+ per month! The solar panels didn't even dent their power consumption, but boy were they proud of it! http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/06/tesla-motors-ipo-nasdaq-tsla-shares.php
