  • "Toyota is Mortal"

  • Toyota only puts in the money and effort to put out clean cars where it sees those efforts will be financially rewarded. In Japan, Toyota is demonstratably more innovative than in the U.S. - and no wonder why - Japan's government is laying out incentive after incentive to buy clean cars WHILE taxing gas, so no one wants to buy 4x4s and SUVs. In the U.S. Japanese motorcars will not be receiving the same benefits as GM, Chrysler, Tesla for that extra push... so, we will not see Toyota try as hard to make clean cars in the United States. The WSJ has recently been publishing articles about Toyota losing money http://247wallst.com/2009/05/08/toyota-tm-is-mortal/. When we don't reward Toyota's singular green push (Prius) with appropriate legislation they will not have the financial means to go even greener. As of right now, gas is cheap and SUVs are still much more profitable than cleaner cars, and here's some insight from the WSJ: "It is becoming obvious that when when consumers have less green in the bank, they are less green all around."
